I was invited by my cousin Ken (KJ) to join him and his sisters, Kathleen and Eileen, for a July Fourth Picnic Cruise on “Penny”, a 34 foot sailboat of which he is part owner. I asked my girlfriend Kathy to join us. KJ, Kathy, and I all had to work on the Fourth but were off early enough to meet at Shilshole Marina by 3 pm by which time the clouds had parted and blue sky took over.
The mainsail had suffered a rip when being stowed recently but just the jib was enough to move us from Ballard toward Bainbridge and then back while we enjoyed fried chicken, potato salad, and blondies (light brownies). The winds got light as they shifted from southerly to northerly so we motored part of the return leg back to the marina. As Fate would have it, the overcast moved in as we drove home.
A wonderful time was had by all.
